Veterans Day is a great time of year to volunteer, donate or simply thank someone
who has served, or is serving, in the U.S. military. And you won’t be the only one
showing appreciation. Many companies see Veterans Day as an opportunity to thank
U.S. service members by offering them, and sometimes their spouses, free goods and
services. Below are my 10 favorite freebies, but there are many more.
Great Clips:
Great Clips is giving away haircuts to active and retired members of the military.
If you’re a current or former member of the military, all you have to do is head to
a Great Clips salon on Veterans Day for a free haircut, or a free haircut card to
use at a later date in 2014. If you aren’t in the military, you can purchase your
own haircut on November 11, and you’ll receive a free haircut card to give to
an active or retired military member. Remember, the free haircut card must be
redeemed by December 31, 2014.
Starbucks:
Not only is Starbucks honoring active and retired military, but military spouses
also can join in by redeeming a tall brewed coffee at no charge. This offer is only
available at participating locations, so call ahead before you leave home, and start
your day right with a (free) hot cup of coffee.
Applebee’s:
Active military and veterans can dine at participating Applebee’s for free on November
11. The free meal is available from open to close and must be chosen from a limited
menu that includes sirloin, three-cheese chicken penne, double crunch shrimp and
more. Beverages and gratuity are not included.
Texas Roadhouse:
Texas Roadhouse is saying thank you with a free lunch and beverage for active and
retired military members. Its special dine-in menu includes sirloin, country fried chicken,
a pulled pork sandwich and more. This offer is only available during lunch hours, so grab
a free lunch at Texas Roadhouse and dine for free at a different establishment for dinner.
Military members can eat free all day!
Golden Corral:
Golden’s Corral’s “thank you” dinner will not be held on Veterans Day. Golden Corral
invites veterans and active military to enjoy a free meal on Monday, November 17, from
5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Families and friends are invited to join, but only current and former
members of the military will receive a free meal. Other guests will pay regular dinner prices.
On the Border:
Veterans and active duty military can enjoy a free “Create Your Own Combo” meal from
On the Border on Veterans Day. This plate includes two or three choices from a menu of
items like tostadas, enchiladas, tacos and more. Check out the full list of participating
locations on the restaurant’s website, ontheborder.com.
Olive Garden:
Olive Garden is offering a free entrée from a select menu for active duty service members
and veterans on November 11. The menu includes many of Olive Garden’s most popular
items, and of course, free freshly baked garlic breadsticks and a choice of soup or salad.
Be sure to call ahead to make sure your location is participating.
Denny’s:
Veterans and active military can build their own Grand Slams at Denny's for free from 5 a.m.
to noon on November 11. They’ll be able to pick four items from a menu of bacon, buttermilk
pancakes, eggs, English muffin, hash browns, sausage links, toast and more. Now, that’s
what I call a complete breakfast.
Red Robin:
Red Robin is celebrating Veterans Day by offering a free Tavern Double burger with Bottomless
Steak Fries to veterans and active duty service members. The wonderful folks at Red Robin
have even featured a touching video on the website personally thanking U.S. military members
for their service.
Most of these freebies are available to those with a military ID, proof of service or those wearing
a uniform. As a rule of thumb, you should always call ahead before heading out to redeem a
freebie. Sometimes freebies are only redeemable only at certain locations. Remember, there
are many more freebies available that are not listed here. Find out what’s available in your
area, and take advantage of all the awesome ways companies are saying thank you on
November 11. Happy Veterans Day!
