The Other Festival is bringing major girl power to New York. Billed as the “first all-female festival,” the one-day event is loaded with panels from female entrepreneurs followed by a concert series of all female acts. The festival’s founder, Dee Poku, who also runs the women's empowerment organization WIE Network and is also the founder of marketing consultant agency Right Angle, says that the inspiration for the event came after her personal experiences at other festivals. Through her WIE network, she found that her events drew a lot of millennial women, which triggered the idea of creating an empowerment extravaganza for entrepreneurs of all levels. “Younger women were flocking to our events and they were very entrepreneurial women, all self-starters and I wanted to support that entrepreneurship for women, nurture their creativity and help them get their ideas to fruition.” The day’s activities include panels that tackle personal branding, seeking investors as well as social media with a VIP mix of participants like supermodel Naomi Campbell, Roc Nation president Chaka Pilgrim and actress/activist Rosario Dawson. The entertainment will be provided by acts like DJ Kitty Cash, songstress Justine Skye and Beyonce's Parkwood signee Sophie Beem.
