Renowned speed king Idris Elba has unveiled the first project to come out of his
co-production deal with Shine North with extreme racing docu-series The Idris Elba
Project for the Discovery Channel.The six-part series will see Elba push his body,
mind and engineering know-how to the limit by racing on land, water and in the air.
The show will air on Discovery in mid-2015 in more than 220 countries and territories,
including the U.S.Elba will take part in alley driving, street racing, aerobatics and power
boating for the series. “I’m taking on the toughest racing challenges of my life for this
new Discovery TV series,” said Elba in a statement. “Along the way I’ll meet extraordinary
individuals, spectacular machines and hear amazing stories of how far people go to satisfy
their love of speed. The extreme challenges will take me right out of my comfort zone as
I compete against the best on land, water and in the air.”
Elba’s Green Door Pictures is co-producing with Shine North. The two companies announced
an exclusive co-production pact in May this year after working together on Elba’s racing
documentary King Of Speed.
Elba knows how to keep busy. The talented multi-hyphenate recently released his first
long play album Mi Mandela, with 14 songs inspired by Nelson Mandela. He is also in
production on Studio Canal’s Bastille Day; is voicing parts in Pixar’s Finding Nemo remake
Finding Dory as well as Disney’s The Jungle Book; and has Cary Fukunaga’s Beasts of No
Nation, Pierre Morel’s The Gunman and Joss Whedon’s The Avengers: Age Of Ultron
coming down the pipeline.
