A normal eighth grader might not have much of a life story to write about.
But honor roll student from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Mo'ne Davis, one
of BAZAAR's 2014 Women Who Dare who became a star after out-pitching
the boys during the 2014 Little League World Series, has plenty to talk about
in an upcoming memoir.Published by HarperCollins, Mo'ne: Remember My
Name will chronicle her experience as one of the lone girls who made it to
the top of the Little League rankings, and becoming the first female pitcher to
ever win a Little League World Series game. And that's at the ripe old age of 13.
Though her team, the Taney Dragons, didn't win the whole competition, they
did beat Nashville 4-0.
Their performance made Mo'ne an instant star. She was the first Little Leaguer
ever to grace the cover of Sports Illustrated, and her jersey now hangs at the
National Baseball Hall of Fame.
"When I joined an all-boys baseball team, my mom wasn't too happy. I proved to
her (and to me) that I could do anything I set my mind to," she wrote in a statement.
"I hope [my story] encourages people to take a chance and play the sports they
want to play and not just the ones people expect them to play."
Mo'ne: Remember My Name is set to hit shelves in March 2015, and will come
with a keepsake poster. Author Hilary Beard will assist Mo’ne with her memoir,
which is aimed at 8- to 12-year-olds.
